Suno v6 vs v6-Wild vs v6-Mini: Which Model Fits Your Song

TL;DR

Suno v6 vs v6 mini vs v6-wild: three models, one 8-minute limit, and only one is free. Pick for ballads, loops, jingles, metal and kids songs.

Suno shipped v6 on 9 September 2026 as three models, not one: v6, v6-wild and v6-mini. All three generate up to 8 minutes of audio, but only v6-mini is available on the free plan. The other two need Pro ($8/month, 2,500 credits) or Premier ($24/month, 10,000 credits), per Suno's pricing page. Suno's help centre describes v6 as the balanced everyday model, v6-wild as the one that favours unexpected choices and genre-blending, and v6-mini as the lighter, faster one for quick ideas.^[1] Below: a comparison table, five song briefs with the model I would pick, how prompts differ between them, and what breaks if you still prompt like it is v4.5.

The short answer: draft on v6-mini, finish on v6, and open v6-wild only when a safe result bores you. What Suno does not publish matters just as much, so every gap is marked "not published" instead of guessed.

The three models side by side

Suno's help centre lists the variants, the 8-minute ceiling and the plan access. Its pricing page lists plan credits and commercial rights. Everything else in the table is either "not published" or labelled as community observation.

Model	Best for	Plans	Credits per generation	Max length	Prompt behaviour
v6	Everyday creation, finished tracks, Custom Models, Remix and Edit	Pro, Premier	Not published	8 minutes	Follows detailed musician vocabulary (per Suno coverage)
v6-wild	Surprises, genre-blending, breaking a creative rut	Pro, Premier	Not published	8 minutes	Less predictable by design
v6-mini	Quick ideas, high-volume testing, concept checks	Free, Pro, Premier	Not published	8 minutes	Lighter and faster; detail handling not published

Two rows in that table are empty on purpose. Suno's pages do not state credits per generation for any v6 model, and nothing I found states lyrics-handling differences between them. Anyone quoting an exact per-model credit price today is guessing. Watch your own credit balance for two or three generations on each model and write the numbers down. That ten-minute test beats any blog table, this one included.

Commercial rights follow the plan, not the model

This is the part people get wrong. Per Suno's pricing page, the free plan carries no commercial rights and Pro and Premier do. Reporting on Suno's updated terms says songs made without a subscription are non-commercial, and that Suno states starting a subscription later does not give a retroactive license.^[2] The same report says paid subscribers get commercial use rights for songs generated while subscribed, but are generally not considered the owners of the songs.

The practical consequence: a v6-mini draft you like, made on the free plan, is a non-commercial draft. If it is going to Spotify or a client, regenerate it on a paid plan. Read the current Suno terms before you release anything; I am summarising a news report, not the contract.

Five song briefs, five picks

1. Hindi film-style ballad: v6

A ballad lives or dies on vocal phrasing and a restrained arrangement. Wild tends to wander off the arrangement you described, and mini is a sketch tool. Pick v6, put the instrumentation and vocal character in the style field, and keep the Hindi lyrics clean in the lyrics box. If you work in regional styles often, our Regional Indian Music Pack for Suno has prompt templates built for exactly this.

2. Lo-fi study loop: v6-mini, then v6

Lo-fi is forgiving. A dusty piano, vinyl crackle and a slow drum pattern survive a lighter model fine, and you will want ten variations to find a good one. Burn the free daily credits on mini, then regenerate the winner on v6 if you need it commercial. The Lo-Fi Chill Beats Generator for Suno pack covers the style strings.

3. Podcast jingle: v6

A jingle is 15 to 30 seconds where every second is audible, so errors cost more. You also need a commercial license, which means a paid plan anyway. Generate on v6, state the length goal in the style field, and keep lyrics to one short hook. See the Podcast Intro and Background Music pack for structures that resolve cleanly.

4. Metal with growls: v6-wild for the first pass, v6 to lock it in

Extreme vocals are where predictable models sand off the edges. Run two or three passes on v6-wild to find a take with real aggression, then use Remix and Edit on v6 to fix the section that drifted. Community reports say harsh vocals respond to explicit vocal descriptors in the style field rather than bracket tags in the lyrics; treat that as observation, not documentation. Templates are in Rock and Metal Forge for Suno.

5. Children's rhyme: v6

Nursery rhymes need a steady beat, simple melody and lyrics that land on the beat. Wild's genre-blending is the wrong instinct here. Choose v6, keep the tempo and vocal type explicit, and use short lines. The Kids Nursery Rhyme Maker pack has line-length patterns that keep Suno on the beat.

Prompt formulas: style field versus lyrics tags

Jack Righteous's V6 prompting guide, a community resource and not Suno documentation, draws a clean line in Custom mode. Overall genre, instrumentation, vocal character and production direction belong in the Styles field. The words to perform, section labels such as [Verse] and [Chorus], and short section-specific cues belong in Lyrics.^[3] That split holds across all three models, but the amount of detail you can spend differs.

A starting formula from the same site: genre, mood, vocal or instrument cue, structure goal, exclusions. Here is how I would adapt it per model.

# v6-mini: short and testable (community-style formula)
Styles: slow lo-fi hip hop, warm, soft Rhodes piano, no vocals, loop-friendly

# v6: detailed, musician vocabulary
Styles: cinematic Hindi ballad, tender female vocal with light vibrato,
tabla and sitar under strings, builds in the second chorus, no electronic drums

# v6-wild: constrain one thing, free the rest
Styles: folk ballad meets industrial pulse, intimate vocal, unpredictable arrangement

The pattern: on mini, one idea per generation so you can read the result. On v6, spend detail, because Suno's launch coverage says v6 understands more musician vocabulary across vocals, instrumentation, structure, mood and references.^[4] On wild, fix the anchor (vocal type or tempo) and let the arrangement roam. If you want a guided way to assemble these strings, the free Suno Prompt Builder outputs a style field and a lyrics skeleton separately.

One change at a time

Both Jack Righteous guides push the same discipline: change one variable per generation. If you swap genre, tempo, vocal style and lyrics together, you cannot tell what fixed or broke the track. It is slower per attempt and faster per good song. Mini makes it cheap to follow.

When old v4.5 and v5 habits break

Suno says it will retire its previous models as v6 rolls out; coverage gives no retirement date, and I could not find one on Suno's own pages.^[4] So your old model choice is going away, and these habits will cost you.

Tag piles. Cramming twelve comma-separated tags into the style box was a v4.5 workaround for a model that ignored sentences. Suno positions v6 as understanding fuller musical language, so a short natural description now has room to work. Our style-of-music tag guide covers what each tag still does.

Vocal direction inside lyrics. Old advice put long performance notes in brackets mid-lyric. The community split above says to keep those in Styles and use lyrics tags for structure and brief cues.

Re-rolling until it works. v6 ships with Replace Section, Extend and Cover. Suno's launch coverage describes plain-language edits that keep the rest of the song. Fix the bridge; do not regenerate the whole track.

One model for everything. With three tiers, defaulting to the strongest model for every draft wastes credits. Draft on mini, finish on v6.

Assuming ownership. Older advice said paid songs were yours. Suno's current wording, as reported, is that subscribers generally are not owners. Plan your distribution around licenses, and read how streaming platforms treat AI music; our post on the Spotify AI persona badge covers one such rule.

A credit-smart workflow

Subscription credits do not roll over, per Suno's pricing page, so unused Pro credits are lost on renewal. That favours spending them. A workable loop on Pro's 2,500 monthly credits: brainstorm ten ideas on mini, pick two, push each through v6 with a detailed style field, run one wild pass on whichever feels flat, then edit sections instead of regenerating. Track what each model costs you in the first week, since Suno has not published per-generation numbers.

Quick answers

Is v6-mini good enough for a finished song?

Suno positions it for quick ideas and testing, not finals. Whether its output sounds noticeably worse is subjective, and Suno has published no benchmarks. Judge by ear, and remember free-plan output is non-commercial.

Is v6-wild just a higher-temperature v6?

Suno's description is "unexpected choices and genre-blending" and nothing about the mechanism. Treat it as a mode for exploration, not a quality upgrade.

Do all three models really allow 8 minutes?

Yes, per Suno's help centre, all three support up to 8 minutes per generation. Free users can also upload up to 8 minutes of audio; Pro and Premier up to 30, per the pricing page.

How many credits does one v6 song cost?

Not published on Suno's pricing or help pages as of 13 October 2026. Test it on your account.

Can I sell a song made on v6-mini?

Only if it was made under a paid plan. The free plan has no commercial rights, and a later subscription is not retroactive, per reporting on Suno's terms.

Will my v5 songs disappear?

Not published. Suno says older models will be retired; it has not said what happens to existing tracks in the sources I found. Download what you care about.
