About Online Speedometer

A GPS speedometer that runs in your browser — no app install, no signup. Start it on a phone, allow location, and it shows your live speed in km/h or mph along with your maximum and average for the session. It reads GPS speed directly on-device; nothing is uploaded.

How It Works

The tool calls the browser Geolocation API’s watchPosition with high accuracy enabled. Each update includes a speed field in metres per second derived from GPS. The tool clamps negatives to zero, converts to your chosen unit (×3.6 for km/h, ×2.23694 for mph) and updates the dial, the max, and a running average of all samples.

Speed is only defined while you are moving on hardware with a real GPS sensor. When the browser returns a null speed — common indoors or on desktops that locate you by Wi-Fi — the tool shows a clear “no speed yet” hint instead of a wrong number. If you deny permission or the device lacks geolocation, it explains what to do rather than failing silently.

Pressing Stop clears the GPS watch so it no longer uses battery.
