Apple's 9 Sep 2026 event: iPhone 18 Pro on a 2nm A20 Pro, a foldable iPhone Ultra with Touch ID, Watch Series 12 — and no base iPhone 18 until 2027.
Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event is Wednesday, 9 September 2026 at 10:00 am Pacific (10:30 pm IST) at Apple Park, streamed on apple.com, YouTube and the Apple TV app. Three phones are expected: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the first foldable iPhone, widely reported as iPhone Ultra. There is no base iPhone 18 this year — the cheaper models move to spring 2027. It is also the first product launch under John Ternus, who became Apple CEO on 1 September after Tim Cook’s 15-year run.
That last point changes how to read the keynote. Ternus ran hardware engineering since 2021; the invitation tagline is a hardware tagline; and the headline product is the most ambitious form-factor change since the iPhone X in 2017. If you want to know what post-Cook Apple prioritises, watch which product gets the “one more thing” slot.

iPhone 18 Pro: a chip year, not a design year
The Pro models are reported to look like the iPhone 17 Pro with three internal changes. The A20 Pro is the first Apple chip on TSMC’s 2nm process, which is where the efficiency gain comes from — expect Apple to talk battery hours and sustained performance rather than peak benchmarks. The C2 modem would be Apple’s second in-house cellular chip after the C1, and the one to watch in India: C1 shipped without mmWave, and 5G performance on Jio and Airtel bands is the practical question for buyers here. The variable-aperture main camera is the one visible upgrade; if it ships, it is the first time an iPhone can trade depth of field for light on the main sensor without software fakery.
The Dynamic Island is reported to shrink. That is a screen-real-estate story, not a feature story, and it usually signals a smaller Face ID module rather than anything new.
